HTC HD2 makes first official appearance in O2 UK catalog

Posted under Editorials on Wednesday, 30 September 2009 by jack

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, O2, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA We’ve been furnished with the above page from an O2 in-store catalog detailing the HTC HD2 (aka Leo), which was set for a UK release on October 12 (though we’re hearing that may have slipped to the 26th). Interesting that it’s pictured with a stock Windows Mobile 6.5 UI instead of TouchFLO 3D.

HTC Imagio with WinMo 6.5 out October 6 on Verizon?

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 29 September 2009 by admin

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Verizon Wireless, Windows Mobile, GSM, CDMA As you know, Verizon is one of the carriers participating in the worldwide WinMo 6.5 rollout extravaganza bonanza on October 6, and that Microsoft has said they’ll be ramping up to thirty smartphones for the OS by year’s end, so the chance is pretty good that the HTC Imagio XV6975 is one of the new handsets we’ll be seeing early next month. As reported by PhoneArena , this one is by all accounts Leo’s little brother — a CDMA / GSM device that sports a 3.6-inch WVGA display, 528MHz processor, Wi-Fi, Opera browser, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, microSD slot, and all the TouchFLO 3D lovin’ you can handle. In addition, it will also be the first Verizon Smartphone to sport VCast MobileTV — you know, if that’s what you’re into

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXXV: TigerG3 looks like a Hero, doesn’t act like one

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Others, GSM, Android If we weren’t too terribly impressed when the HTC Hero made the leap from Europe to the States, at least our funny bones are tickled by the device’s inauguration into full-blown KIRFhood. Reports differ on the OS of the thing, but the features are 100% iPhone knock-off, including: dual SIM support, 1.3 megapixel camera, analog TV, FM radio, WiFi, and support for a host of audio and video formats

Rumor: Garmin-ASUS nuvifone G60 to run $300?

Posted under Editorials on Sunday, 27 September 2009 by admin

Filed under: Handsets, ASUS, Others While several shipping dates have come and gone, we’re still hopeful of seeing Garmin’s nuvifone in the flesh and on the street at some point in the future. If you’ve forgotten (and nobody would really blame you), the HSDPA, quad-band handset will boast GPS (of course), WiFi, Bluetooth, plus a full browser. The G60’s been available in Asia for some time now, and while a confirmed US launch has been much anticipated, no pricing has ever been announced.

HTC Leo’s TouchFLO 3D build demoed on video

Posted under Editorials on Saturday, 26 September 2009 by jack

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Windows Mobile The HTC Leo is shaping up to be a pretty monumental Windows Mobile launch, and not just because of that high-res capacitive touchscreen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor — it’s also running a nicely refreshed version of TouchFLO 3D.

HTC Leo looking confirmed for O2 UK debut, will be free on the right plan

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, O2, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, HSUPA If you needed another reason to frown upon the state of the North American wireless industry, allow us to go ahead and turn your attention to Exhibit A here. What you’re looking at is some promotional material backing up earlier rumors that the HD2 / Leo is en route to O2 in the UK, but what’s especially upsetting (though not terribly surprising) is the knowledge that customers will be able to scoop up HTC’s new ultra-high-end WinMo beast for zilch on an O2 1200 tariff — a plan that runs something like

HTC: Only Android phones will rock the chin.

Posted under Editorials on Wednesday, 23 September 2009 by admin

Oh, the infamous chin of many HTC Android phones – how controversial it is. At least, it’s about as controversial as things get in the geeky little world of the phone-obsessed. Done one way (as with the G1), it finds itself on the wrong end of an endless train of mockery.

Indeed, if Android, resistive touchscreen, and FM Radio aren’t enough to blow your mind, wait’ll you hear this next bit of news: this one is available in black — a UK exclusive! Maybe not worth moving overseas for, but possibly worth pre-registering for? If you think so, hit the read link and get started

Larva Labs proposes ‘intelligent’ Android home screen

Posted under Editorials on Monday, 21 September 2009 by admin

Filed under: Software, Android HTC and Motorola may done their best to whip Android’s interface into shape, but it looks like the folks at Larva Labs still weren’t satisfied with the options available, so they’ve naturally gone ahead and designed their own UI (with a little help from Ideas on Purpose). While it’s unfortunately still just a concept, the firm’s so-called “Intelligent Home Screen” does bring plenty of interesting ideas to the table, which Larva Labs says should help it “appeal to Blackberry owners and people struggling with information overload.” The centerpiece of the concept is a home screen divided by a (slightly familiar looking) slider bar, which puts personal items like emails up top and general interest stuff on the bottom, with relevant apps accessed by the icon on the right-hand side of the screen, and everything else relegated to a separate menu
